Classroom Library
chapter, to full chapter books. They are grouped by book level,
series, or subject area.

All books are labeled for Accelerated Reader. This includes the book
level and number of points.  The book level is a general guide of
readability. In my library, I have a colored dot on the back of the book
to identify the level. For instance, the book pictured is a 3.1, so a
child in the 1st month of 3rd grade should be able to read the book
with little problems. You can use
arbookfind.com to look up books
and levels.

Students are free to check books out during the day. In the
classroom, students place the card for the book into the pocket
chart on the wall so I know the books each student has. These
books also have my name written in the front cover, so parents,
please help me get these books returned to school so others may
use them! To see a list of the books in my classroom library, visit my

Some books are also labeled for their interest level:
LG=Lower grades     MG=Middle grades     UG Upper grades
Middle grades is the highest interest level I include in my library.
These books are for more mature readers due to certain themes. An
example is the Goosebumps series, which is MG, though most 3rd
graders can handle the content.

Students in 3rd grade can find MG books in their level. I ask students
to let me know if they would like to read one of these books and
make the decision to allow/disallow them to read it. I do not allow
students in my class to check out books such as the Twilight series
from the school library. Though the reading level of these books are
around 4th grade, they are UG interest level.

You may wish to consider discussing with your child the type of
books you feel is acceptable or not acceptable.
